In keeping with State of Texas Senate Bill 111 passed in 2005 and WTC Administrative Policy 5212 adopted in July 2008, WTC will grant course credit for examinations with certain required scores (credit-by-examination).
If you think you already meet the requirements of a course by experience or previous training, you may request credit-by-examination. You may not request credit-by-examination for courses in which you are currently enrolled. The examination may be an approved subject examination (not a general examination) of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement Exams, Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Support (DANTE), International Baccalaureate Program Exams, (IB) or an instructor-made test, depending on the course. Scores for national testing programs, such as CLEP, AP and DANTE, are valid for 10 years.
Final acceptance of credit-by-examination for specific degree purposes is determined by the degree-granting institution. If you are planning to use credit-by-examination to meet degree requirements at other institutions, you should check the receiving institution's requirements.
You must be currently enrolled as a credit student at the college to receive credit-by-examination. At Western Texas College, exam credits are awarded after the student has successfully completed one semester. For additional information regarding any of the following exams, please contact the WTC Counseling Center at (325) 574-7621 or by e-mail at counseling@wtc.edu.
